Maths Courses
These programmes are designed to be completed in one academic year, however they offer flexibility to allow the learner to work through the content at their own pace.
The course will span 6 workbooks in total, designed to be completed one per each half term alongside an adult learner. Technology Triumphs does not currently provide assessment of these courses.
Each workbook is designed to cover 18 sessions (if following a school half term, 3 sessions per week).
Please note that these workbooks do not cover ALL concepts from the National Curriculum but do draw down from the N.C
Topics covered in this course:
- Concept of Numbers
- Our entry into the world of calculations this module will look at key early concepts of number, how numbers are constructed and methods of counting, using a variety of practical explorations.
- 4 Operations
- This module will look at the key four operations of calculation, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and will use concrete apparatus found around the home to introduce basic skills in solving calculation problems in a fun and interactive way.
- Fractions
- Beginning with simple fractions of objects and how this links with division we begin to look at the world of fractions in a relatable way building on skills established in the previous modules
- Time
- This module revolves around the telling of time to the hour and half past as well as looking at the days, weeks and months of the year. Measurements and data collection.
- In this module, we look at standard units of measurement, centimetres for length, grammes for mass and millilitres for capacity. We will also look at collecting and presenting data in the form of pictogramms.
- Shape
- We start with explorations of 2 and 3d shapes around the home and introduce the basic vocabulary of properties of shape such as angles, faces and vertices.
Topics covered in this course:
- Concept of Numbers
- Building on the information in the KS1 modules we expand our understanding of concept of number by looking in more detail at place value and the commutative property of numbers. This module will also work alongside the fractions module to look at money and an introduction to decimals.
- 4 Operations
- Â In looking at the 4 operations this module focuses on expanded problem solving using place value with an introduction to ‘long’ multiplication and division.
- Fractions and decimals In this module, we deepen our understanding of fractions by looking at fractions of amounts as well as looking at decimal place value with tenths.
- Time Here we will learn to tell the time to 5-minute intervals as well as look at calculations involving time. We will also introduce the concepts of AM and PM.
- Measurements and data collection In this module, we expand our knowledge of the units of measurement ( cl, kg, mm and m for example) and look at ways of presenting data such as bar graphs and pie charts.
- Shape This module introduces area and perimeter as well as degrees of angles as well as looking at the properties of irregular shapes and how to define them.
Topics covered in this course:
- Concept of Numbers
- Â This module concentrates on more advanced problem solving and flexibility of thinking when looking at mathematics and ‘playing’ with numbers.
- 4 OperationsÂ
- More advanced problem solving using all the main operations will be covered in this module with both formal and informal methods explored including work with decimal place value around money.
- Fractions
- Â This module will look at the equivalency of fractions as well as looking at more complex problem solving involving mixed fractions with different denominators.
- Time
- By the end of this module we will look to be able to tell the time to the minute and using a 24 hr clock as well as solve more advanced problems to do with the passage of time introducing concepts such as decades, millennia, BC etc.
- Measurements and data collection In this measurements module we will look at working with mixed amounts and conversion as well as more sophisticated methods of data collection and presentation such as line graphs.
- Shape
- This module will focus on measuring 2 and 3d objects with area and volume as well as measuring angles and looking at the nets of 3d shapes.
